DuPont Industrial Biosciences is considering a $20 million expansion at its Cedar Rapids facility and is seeking state assistance.

The company is asking the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board for a $55,000 forgivable loan and about $900,500 in tax credits through the High Quality Jobs Program, according to documents provided to the state.

The proposed project, 1000 41st Ave. Drive SW, would add additional granulation capacity to the site to support growth in the enzyme business and allow the facility to produce products in Cedar Rapids for the North America region, according to state documents. These products are now being produced in other regions and shipped into North America.

The expansion would include a new building and warehouse space, storage tanks and additional manufacturing equipment. Construction is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2014.

The Economic Development Authority Board is meeting Friday at 10 a.m. to discuss incentives for the project and seven others around the state.

Delaware-based DuPont acquired Genencor International Inc. and parent company Danisco in 2011.
